Magnet Information
Balboa Magnet welcomes approximately 150 new students each year. The student body is 698 strong, and families come from over 35 different zip codes in greater Los Angeles to attend Balboa’s peaceful campus in the suburb of Northridge. Bus transportation is provided by LAUSD to any qualifying student who lives more than one mile from the school. The school serves grades 1-5. Students must be verified by their sending school as either high achieving or as meeting the four criteria of a gifted learner.

Please read the Choices brochure carefully before applying. Students are selected at random by the LAUSD magnet office based on the points priority system.
Balboa School Tours
If you are interested in applying to Balboa Gifted / High Ability Magnet, we highly encourage you to attend one of our tour dates. Tours are only offered in the Fall and they all begin at 8:30am. We begin accepting reservations for tours mid to late September. Please see the News and Announcements portion of our website's main page for available tour dates.
